Police are appealing for information after an elderly man was assaulted during a break and enter at Warrawong yesterday morning.
About 4am, Monday 20 February 2012, an 82-year-old man was asleep at his home in Bent Street when he was woken by a loud bang at the rear of the house.
Police have been told the man was then attacked in his bedroom and assaulted.
During the incident two males demanded money from him before ransacking the premises.
Believing the men had left the premises the man went to his back door where he was hit on the head and fell to the ground before his attackers fled.
The injured man made his way to a neighbour’s house were police were called and later attended the scene.
As a result of the assault the elderly man sustained bruising to his face, hip, arm and hand while investigations revealed that nothing was stolen during the break-in.
Detectives from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are conducting investigations into the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
