Getting Started

The best way to experience the power of shared information is to experience it for yourself, so if you'd like to get started, here's how.

Image Caption - share local events, happenings or community meetings. Let people know where volunteering opportunities exist.

To share information with your community

  1. Click on the Submit a Report button on the home page.
  2. Type in the details of your report and select the date it applies to.
  3. Select the categories that you want your report available in. Click on the + (plus) to see the subcategories. You can choose as many categories as apply to your report. For example, you might be submitting a story about a development in your street and want it to be found by people who may not know about it so you could file it in BUILDING & DEVELOPMENT, in the subcategory, In Planning but can also file it in NEWS & LOCAL INFORMATION under Local News.  You can also select multiple subcategories within a section if you wish.
  4. Locate the report. All reports on Everymap must have a location. If your report does not relate to a specific location, eg a street, road, park etc but instead relates to a whole town or suburb, just type in the suburb or town name and you can locate your report to the central point of that area. To locate your report type the address (with or without a street number) into the box directly below the map and click on Find Location.  You must click on Find Location so Everymap can attact your report to the map. You can zoom in to check the location and you can also move the marker within the map to a precise location. If you wish to add a more detailed address you can do so in the Refine Location name box.
  5. Add a link, photo or video. This is optional but if you wish to add a website link with more news relating to your report, a video or photo, you can do so.
  6. Including your name & email details is optional. These details are never shared publicly. But should we wish to check any aspects of your report, they allow us to contact you should we need to verify your report or check any of the details.
  7. Submit report. You are finished. Just click on the Submit a Report button and your report will be sent to Evermap and we'll upload shortly.

Other ways to Submit a Report

  1. Send an email to info@evermap.com.au with details of the information you'd want to share, including date and location and we'll compile a report for you. This may take more time, so don't expect your report to appear immediately.
  2. Send us a tweet with the hashtag #everymap or direct to @everymap, with details, date & location and we'll compile a report.
  3. SMS - you will be able to send us an SMS report shortly, so you can send reports from your phone. We'll let you know as soon as this is live.

What happens next?

EveryMap will put your report live the day it is received. Reports which are able to be verified will be tagged verified.

Your report can then be accessed by everyone and people receiving alerts in your area will receive notification of your report. The community can also join in discussion on the report and you can also expand on your report in the discussion section if you wish.

Finding out what's happening where you live...

The best way of finding out what's happening where you live is to use the Map on the home page to select your area of interest.  Click on the icon and you'll then find all the information submitted by other locals that they want to share with you.

You can explore all categories or just the categories you are interested in. If you only want to see a particular Category or Subcategory just click on that category and reports for that area of interest only will be shown.

To read the detail of a report, click on the coloured circles displayed on the map and it a box will pop up showing, then click on the word report. For example it may say '3 reports'. This will take you to the reports page. To see the detail on the report, click on the heading. You can then see the report, share the report with others and join in a discussion. You can also express your opinion on the credibility of the report.

Alerts - Local Information sent straight to your Inbox

If you would like to know when something is happening in your area, set up an alert and get messages sent to your inbox.

For the next week or so, the SMS alerts service is not available. So if you would like alerts, submit your email address, your location and the radius around your location you would like reports sent from. You can choose to have reports sent from a small an area as 1km radius up to 100km and everything inbetween.

We are sure to have left some things out, so don't hesitate to email us with questions or to let us know what other information you would like added here.

We also invite comment or feedback on the site and thoughts on how we could improve the site. If you would like to help make more information publicly available and partner with EveryMap in this quest, we'd love to hear from you.
